Chicana/o studies department targeted by hate crime

A racial slur was written on a Chicano studies professor’s door in Jerome Richfield Hall.

​

Chicana/o studies Professor Xocoyotzin Herrera reported the incident to David Rodriguez, Chicano studies department chair, who immediately notified CSUN Police.

Lansdale, Sanchez win A.S. presidential and vice presidential elections with 80% of vote

Days after A.S. presidential candidate, Amanda Lynch, withdrew from the presidential race another candidate attempted to place his name on the ballot.

​

Justin Marks, double major in English and African American studies and one of the students arrested in the March 4 protests, made an effort on Tuesday afternoon to enter the presidential race as a write-in candidate.

Students, faculty react to campus protests

Hundreds of CSUN students took part of a statewide “Day of Action” on March 4 to protest budget cuts.

​

The day began with several students gathering at tables set up by the Coalition of Students and Teachers (C.O.S.T) in front of Manzanita Hall and the Oviatt Library.

‘Hands for Haiti’ benefit concert raises money

CSUN’s Hands for Haiti, a benefit concert for those devastated by the Haiti earthquake was held Friday night.

The event, which was held in the Northridge Center of the University Student Union (USU) showcased students and professionals to raise money for the Hope for Haiti Now foundation.

Slave rebellion database created

The Pan African Studies Department at CSUN has launched a Slave Rebellion Database on its Web site that comprises a collection of documents and data relating to slave populations and slave rebellions in the United States.

New Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy to reduce financial aid

CSUN President Jolene Koester has approved a change in a financial policy that will prevent students with more than 150 attempted units from receiving financial aid in the fall semester.


In an e-mail sent to students last month, Dr. Terry Piper, vice president for Student Affairs said that beginning in the 2010-11 academic year, the Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy will not allow undergraduate students to receive financial aid if they have yet to graduate and attempted 150 units.
